Diagnosing Sleep Apnea Symptoms
The main problem when it comes to diagnosing sleep apnea is that the symptoms of this disorder only occur when a person is asleep.
The only way to get around it is to ask your bed partner to watch over your sleeping habits while you are asleep or go to a professional sleep clinic where sleep apnea can be diagnosed properly.
The Major Signs or Symptoms of this Disorder are:
- Chronic and loud snoring
- Gasping or choking sound during sleep
- Pauses in breathing
- Excessive sleepiness during the day, regardless of the amount of time you sleep
- When you wake up with a sore throat or your mouth is dry
- Headaches, insomnia or awakenings at nighttime
- Waking up feeling like you are our of breath
- Lack on energy, concentration, poor memory
- Depression, moodiness or anxiety
If you noticed any of those signs in you or your partner, then you should see a doctor. Often to properly diagnose this condition you will have to stay overnight in a sleep clinic.
Snoring is not always a sign of sleep apnea, and not every person that sleep apnea snores. So, how to distinguish a case of sleep apnea and just snoring? The main difference is how you feel during the day. Normal snoring doesn’t effect the way you feel, however in cases of sleep apnea a person will suffer excessive sleepiness and often fatigue.
